This Standard specifies requirements and test methods for seating appliances which are designed to sit over the bath and which rest on or are fixed to the edges of the bath. It also applies to static seating used within the bath that is stabilized by the sides or the edges of the bath.
This Standard does not cover hoists incorporating a seat or bench that is placed within, over or near a bath.
A flat, non-conforming seating device, with or without a backrest, that is designed for use within or over the bath, resting against the sides of the bath, or fixed to or resting over the edges of the bath.
A contoured and/or conforming seating device, with or without a backrest, that is designed for use within or over the bath, resting against the sides of the bath, or fixed to or resting over the edges of the bath.
When metal parts or coated metal parts are exposed for no less than 50h to salt spray in accordance with AS 2331.3.1,they shall show no significant evidence of base metal corrosion, or of blistering of the coating, and shall be operational.
NOTES:
1 Grade 304 stainless steel will generally meet this requirement.
2 Low-carbon steels and most grades of aluminium will not comply with this Standard.
The finish of all surfaces should be smooth and non-absorbent for the service life of the product. The following requirements apply:
(a) Finishes of enamel or polymer coating shall be tested in accordance with AS 1580.408.4 and shall not exceed Classification 2.
(b) Anodized finishes shall meet or exceed AS 1231 thickness grade AA15.
(c) Timber and other porous materials shall be sealed to prevent ingress of water and other fluids.
(d) Chrome plating shall not be used as a surface finish.
